The State School Board created the Oregon State Seal of Biliteracy (OSSB) to recognize and value the native language/s students speak and bring to their English academic studies, value language programs in schools, and encourage students to study languages. This award recognizes student proficiency in reading, writing, listening, and speaking two or more languages.

How Can You Qualify?

  • Parents/guardians, notify your student’s high school if your child intends to pursue the Seal at any time during high school, up until the end of Semester 1 in the student’s senior year.
  • Students demonstrate proficiency in all languages (including English) by taking the STAMP 4S test. LOSD covers the cost of the first STAMP test for each language.
